These are words from Michelle and Ralph:

Michelle and I first met briefly in Martell’s at Point Pleasant at a large gathering of mutual friends.  Would you believe, she didn’t give me the time of day…   A few months later, we met once again at Sushi Lounge with a few of the same mutual friends.  This time however, to my surprise, Michelle and I spoke at length all night long.  The topic of conversation, interestingly enough, was our mutual struggles out on the dating scene.  We found that we both had some pretty funny horror stories.  I enjoyed our conversation very much and hated the night had to end.  I wanted to ask her for her number, but I had mentioned I needed a break from dating, so I felt it would have been a bit hypocritical.  I left hoping that our friends would get together soon so I could see her again.  I would get my wish about a month later.

On 10/10/10, we all met up at Pub 46 to watch football.  Even though she absolutely hated and still hates the sport, she showed up hoping that I would be there.  My favorite team actually had a bye week, and I had only showed hoping that she would be there.  That night we didn’t hide our feelings and we were pretty much inseparable from that moment on.  A month later, we went on a magical getaway to Anguilla right before the Thanksgiving holiday.  There, on a breathtaking night, I serenaded her while dancing to Frank Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight.  It’s the moment she fell in love with me, but trust me when I say it couldn’t have been my singing.  She’d wait a few months to tell me, letting me say it first.  I knew then I’d ask her to marry me and I even knew the day.  I was so sure, I even confided to one of her friends I knew I could trust.

On November 11, 2011, after months of stress picking out the “perfect” ring, I got down on one knee in a candlelit room and asked her to marry me.  She knew I was the one because she could be herself around me, and she knew I would love her unconditionally and always be by her side.  We planned for a summer 2012 wedding being that 12/12/12 would fall smack in the middle of the week.  The stress of planning an outdoor wedding usually drives the bride to go a little nuts, hence the term “Bridezilla”; however, I must say I was much worse which had her affectionately dub me her “Groomzilla”.  With the help of the website TheKnot.com, I narrowed our search down to venues that only held one event at a time and a place that fit our personalities and tastes.  She wanted a place that was warm yet elegant, classy and of course beautiful.  We were torn between two venues.  I had actually been to weddings at both of them so I knew we couldn’t go wrong with either of them.  The decision was made when Michelle walked into The Florentine Gardens and her eyes lit up.  She immediately knew this was where she wanted to celebrate our love and share our day amongst family and friends.

Our seven month engagement flew by and despite being stressful we embraced it.  Using a list of recommended vendors from the two venues we considered was a great starting point.  We focused on what was most important to the both of us, music and photography.  The music was probably the easiest decision we had to make as I had known a fantastic DJ that is a good friend.  Michelle, having the utmost respect and confidence in my opinion, left it up to me with her only request being if he’d be able to bring a percussionist as well.  We placed photography as the most important decision after the venue.  Michelle and I knew that pictures were what we’d look at most to remember and relive that day in our years to come.  We were so impressed with Roberto Falck’s work after viewing an album at the Pleasantdale Chateau and we were equally impressed when we met him at his studio.  His easygoing demeanor set our minds at ease and we knew we’d have nothing to worry about on our big day.  It was a huge load off our shoulders and we can’t thank him enough.  After we had our contract signed, all the other vendors we used fell into place one at a time.  A full list of those we used will follow below. After all the planning and decision making we had our travel agent plan a romantic honeymoon to Europe. Our honeymoon was all we expected and more. We were truly blessed to have such good friends and a supportive family to make our day so special.
